Varieties of Mammium Chennapatnam

Varieties  of Mammium  Chennapatnam

Original by
Prasad Kaushik  (https://thirtymlmusings.wordpress.com/2013/12/30/the-ascent-of-the-maami/ )

Rewritten  material  by
P.R.Ramachander

(I was fascinated by  this piece  of   writing of Prasad Kaushik  but somehow   I wanted to rewrite it in my own way. Hope the great writer would excuse. )

1.Tam Brahm mami   whether clad in Madisar,
Or strikingly pretty saris  made of cotton to silk,
Or  dressed  in Churidar, Kurthi or any other dresses,
Is a  great species   adaptable to any change.

A scientist   young friend  of mine  who has,
Specialized   in   evolution    and taxonomy  of species,
Says that they could all be named   and classified  as,
Mamium  chennapatnam   subspecies  Mylapore.

Evolved from centauries  of iron clad culture,
Managing   the affairs of home of Mama chennapatnum,
Though she has evolved  in to  Mamium modernism,
She has varieties from very orthodox to greatly  modern.

The Tambrahm   var.  Visa  Mami of this great species   tastes like  foreign food,
Has an aroma  of western continents  in her  and  is an expert,
In  travel to  any foreign country   of the entire world ,
And  would  tell you , how to live there spiritually  as well as domestically.

The  Tambrahm  var  temple run Mami   on the other hand is an expert  ,
On all places  in India , a guide  to any temple anywhere,
And often reeks the strong Aroma  of ash , sandal , musk  and saffron,
She tells you  without any stop, comma or semi colon of temples  and temples.

The  Tambrahm   var Pincode Mami    is extremely proud  of her local roots ,
And would be an expert on all  the shops  and temples of her area ,
Her Aroma   would be that of specialities   of her area ,
And she would jump at you , if you find fault   with her area.

Better  avoid the Mami var Centum , because  all her progeny,
Would have scored centum in all   subjects  and would be  studying in MIT.
She will laugh at you if you say you are   from  IIT  or regional college .
And this Mami would  have   the aroma of late tea   that  she supplies to her kids.

Tambram Mani var black sheep   used   to avoid  all temples,
Functions  and music concerts  because her children married  outside caste,
But things have changed and they   are becoming outspoken,
Because children are not getting married   of any one  else  to any body.

Tambram mami var interrogation should  be  definitely avoided,
They keep on asking questions , very loudly about   your personal details.
She may ask you, “I saw you other day hugging Lisa   in café”,
“I saw  you coming out of bar” , “I saw you smoking “ etc endlessly.

Tambram Mami  var Adi sales   would be a great bargainer,
Her greatest achiements are   buying  things dead cheap,
Please do not ask  her   why those   goods reek  smell of ancientness,
For then she would take out an umbrella  brought in sales and drive you away.

The Tambrahm mami  var  google  is an expert  in google search,
Not only for her wards  but to all   and sundry   she knows,
She searches for suitable   grooms  and brides,
Though she makes errors   she  does this ad valoram

Then ofcourse  there is the Tambram mami   var pretty made up,
Who is so pretty , that  they are being sought for dancing acting,
They   normally look  after  their big paunched  male of the  species ,
Who are fat, ugly and bald  which make  people think   that they are father of the Mami.

Dedicated to all mothers of the world

Dedicated  to all mothers  of the world

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

(From whatsapp, Thanks to whosoever has written it ,  Do  also  read http://stotrarathna.blogspot.in/2009/07/adhi-shankaras-mathru-panchakam.html  as well  as  https://rajathathablog.blogspot.in/2016/12/the-angel-called-ammamothermummy.html  and shed  tears for  the God sent angel,  but for whom, you would not be there  .)

Though home was  built by father , for us it  is  our mother’s home.

Kitchen is the office of mother , and her expected salary  is our love.

There is no need  of medicine  if we get fever,
The frequent touch of mother   to see if it  has gone is more than sufficient.

Oh friends who tease me  for putting  the  dash of turmeric spot  in  the new dress,
In spite  of my growing up, this is not put by me but by my mother.

The only worry of  mother  attacked by typhoid, is that   she would  not able to cook.

The beggar who calls “Oh mother” to get alms, is the Guru  of all psychiatrists.

By telling any lie mother  can be deceived, except “I have already   taken food.”

When  rarely  father  and son laugh together, mother wipes .
Her eyes for the dust that  had not fallen and moves away.

It is these mothers   who fill up the bags  of  children going ,
To outside their  city , with love  soaked   unlimited  eatables.

When children need  to pay school feel  , they approach only their mother,
Because she will get it from father or give it herself and get chastised by father.

Though  both parents are inside home , we only knock  the door and call “Mother”

In all poems written on mother at least  two wet marks of tears would be there.

The international   slogan of mothers  is “My child cannot tolerate   hunger.”

Aanaikku oru kalam, Poonaikku oru kalam

Aanaikku oru kalam, Poonaikku oru kalam

Recently I have penned   several such posts. All of them are  not completely true. Yes, once upon a time (50 years back) it was the groom  who used   to put conditions but now they cannot afford to do so,
Once the grooms parents used to ask  , “pretty very fair girls who have orthodox upbtingng along with  huge dowry, well ornamented , specially   with Vaira Thodu full seer varisai  , silver vessels, grand marriage  and   so on and on endlessly.” But it is now the  time for   bride’s parents  or brides to ask. Their demands are being exaggerated by  groom’s parents.  After some time they may ask  “Sthri shulkam( dowry to girls) , full expenditure  of marriage  including ornaments and cloths    to be borne  by grooms parents  etc etc” .Our forefathers have told, “Aanaikku oru kalam, vanthal  Poonaikku oru kalam varum.”.

Tips to parents and grooms to get married

Translated by
P.R . Ramachander

(This is based on the great  Tamil write up by Hamsabai  Santhana Krishnan. I have taken some independence   while drafting it in English)

Parents    of the groom   either should be in heaven,
Or should  eat in the marriage  feast  and should  vanish forever

The groom should have a  salary of more than seven lakhs ,
If itr is six, he should produce  a certificate   from his office  that it would be made  in to seven.

After  marriage   the girl would   go and live in  her  parent’s home for ten days a month,
And during the rest twenty    days , her parents would live  in her home,

After marriage the girl would financially   support her parents,
But  grooms who need to do that  would not be considered.

Oh grooms parents, If a girl  consents   for marriage ,
Immediately  sign an agreement  for above conditions,
And celebrate   your sons   marriage  and post haste  vanish,
And Oh girl’s parents   , it is real time    for you to enjoy.

Oh grooms cash  in on her   agreement and do not raise ,
Silly things like, mutual love ,  give and take   and sacrifice ,
If your  intention is   to lead   a married   life .
Thinking or talking about these means you would be batchelor forever.

Logic of face washing

Logic of face   washing

Rewritten by
P.R.Ramachander

This   is  but a rewriting of post in English  of Subramanian Raman   but written by me  in my own words.  Thanks are due to  Subramanian Raman

P.R.Ramachander

There was   a great expert  in logic ,
And he approached a great Guru,
And told  him that , as a great expert in Logic
He would answer all  questions of logic  from the Guru.

Guru said, “Two persons got down the chimney together,
One’s face was dirty    and another’s was clean,
Who would wash   his face “, the logician laughed,
“Ofcourse   the  one whose   face    got dirty.”

The guru said “wrong logic , the one whose face is clean,
Would wash his face  , because , he sees the other person’s face was dirty.”
The logician agreed  and requested    the Guru to ask another question,
And the  Guru asked    the same question once more.

The logician laughed., “ofcourse  I know the answer ,
Which you just told me , The man whose face is clean,
The Guru said , “No, both of them  would wash his face,
The dirty one would see the clean one  wash hisa own face  and he would also wash.”

The logician wanted one more question    and the Guru,
Asked the same   question ., and the logician asked “But who”
The guru said neither  as the one with dirty face    does not clean,
And seeing him the one with clean face   also does not clean.”

The logician wanted Guru to ask   question  one more time,
And the guru asked the same question   and the logician,
Did not even smile and Guru told , “The story is impossible,
When they come down together  , both their faces would be dirty.”

The Husband and wife market in India

The  Husband and wife market in India

By
P.R.Ramachander

(I saw a Tamil write up about this. It was only quoting  about write up of Husband/Wife store  in a web site  called  funny2.com . My writing is similar to it but   for south Indian conditions. Felt sad  after writing it and not funny.)

Some one in  India read   about American  Husband store,
And wanted   to open a husband and wife   store   in India   too.
The husband market was  organized in six enclosures,
With each  enclosure   having  malls of only one husband type

At the entrance there    was a big board .”You can,
Choose only one husband  or one wife  and once you do  ,
A helicopter   would land there   and take   ,
You both   out   of that mall  to outside  to get married.

Also, you way is  always  forward    and once you ,
Leave a enclosure   you cannot  return to it again.
And we assure you  that husband/wife    in next enclosure,
Would   have  one more desirable quality than previous one

A:Husband  Market

Naturally   there was   a very costly admission ticket  ,
And  only few  ladies   were there and went in  one after   another  ,
One girl   entered the    first enclosure  and a board announced,
“Tall, white,  business  people   or priests six figure income, all  conditions Okay”

The   girl did   not even hesitate even for a   second,
She waved  her hand off  , “ cannot Marry   a priest  and live in orthodox hell,
Or marry a business  man whose   income    is never  stable,
And  whose working    hours    from  dawn to night.” said she

The  girl crossed  to the next enclosure    quickly   and there,
The board announced , post graduate   good job , tall  and white,
And again the girl    quickly   decided “  Who would marry,
A mere post graduate   in these  times  of high fashion”

She crossed    with haste   to the next enclosure  where it was put,
“Tall,  fair,  B.Tech soft ware  engineers  , only son , and  has  to look after  his parents”
And the girl again did not hesitate  “why the hell such people ,
Come to this market, Which girl would look after   his parents?’

She entered   then to the next enclosure  , which looked better,
“Grooms tall  , white    ,  post graduate soft ware engineers,
Employed in  MNCs    with five figure    salary  , has parents dependent on him ,
Who would visit  once in a while , The girl  felt okay but crossed to the next .

The next Enclosure  board   said  , Grooms , tall  , white, post graduate ,
Has  a job in USA, Parents  not dependent   on him   but  is averse,
To spend money  like water and the girl   thought for a while ,
Decided to try   for better  grooms and crossed  through the next gate.

There  was no mall there  but there  was a board   ‘an Indian groom  ,
Who is suitable    to you   is yet    to be born   in  this world  ,
Bye for now   but   next year   do come back   , for  ,
Fresh stock of eligible grooms is  on their way.

B:The wife   Market
Next   to the husband store   a simple   small  building ,
Said it was   a wife   store   for eligible gooms,
Again there    were   few  Enclosures   and malls there,
And a board  said , the way was  forward  only

Unlike the husband store   there was a very big queue ,
Before the store, and grooms were left in   one by one,
In the first Enclosure   the board told, Educated  brides,
Willing to marry ordinary but educated   grooms.

About   forty  percent   grooms chose  their brides  there,
And the rest twenty   moved to the next enclosure ,
And it was put there  , “pretty brides  , well educated,
Employed “ and thirty percent got  married there,

The rest thirty  stepped  in to the third enclosure,
Which was completely   empty  , “No brides  in stock here,
Come  after   some time when new stocks  arrive,
And those thirty  percent  grooms never got any bride  in their life,

Vandhe Matharam- some songs saluting country as mother

Vandhe Matharam- Tomorrow is our republic day  - The  birthday of  the mother of us all

Collected  by
P.R.Ramachander

( As a five year old   in pre independence days  in Secunderabad   , I have travelled on the shoulders  of my father to  Fatheh Maidan   to attend   and hear the speeches  our freedom fighters  like Pandit  Jawaharlal  Nehru and Jaya Prakash Narayan..My father taught me  to read Tamil by using  pages of  “ Mahathma Gandhi’s  Tamil Harijan” which he subscribed. From him , I inherited  a great love for my country, This  my  country  is greater   than heaven to  me.-Janani Janma Bhoomischa Swargadhapi   Gareeyasi)

This was  a song written by  Bankim Chandra Chatterji   for his novel Anand Mutt.  The first two stanzas of this great song was adopted by India as an alternate National Anthem. Mahakavi Bharathiyar who was  one of the greatest modern  Tamil Poets  and a foremost  Freedom fighter, had written a   tamil   adaptation , which is extremely  popular  among Tamil people. Sri A.R.Rehman   adapted this song  got iy rewritten   and sang it himself both in Hindi and Tamil recently  .The lyrics of Hindi version   and Tamil  version are different .

I   am giving below
1.National anthem   and its  official translation
2.The full Vandhe matharam song from   Ananda Mutt   with translation by Sri Aurobindo
3.Mahakavi  Bharathi’s  tamil version and my translation
4.AR  REhman;s Hindi version  entitled “Maa Thujhe Salam written by  Mehboob Kotwal ”   with  my translation
5,AR Rehman’s Tamil version entitled “Thai Manne Vanakkam written by poet  Vaira Muthu  ”    with my translation
When I completed it my eyes were  filled   with  tears of joy , because  I  am also  a son of this  great mother-my country.

Meaning of Vande Mataram by Sri Aurobindo
Mother, I bow to thee! Rich with thy hurrying streams, bright with orchard gleams, Cool with thy winds of delight, Dark fields waving Mother of might, Mother free.Glory of moonlight dreams, Over thy branches and lordly streams, Clad in thy blossoming trees, Mother, giver of ease Laughing low and sweet! Mother I kiss thy feet, Speaker sweet and low! Mother, to thee I bow.Who hath said thou art weak in thy lands When the sword flesh out in the seventy million hands And seventy million voices roar Thy dreadful name from shore to shore? With many strengths who art mighty and stored, To thee I call Mother and Lord! Though who savest, arise and save! To her I cry who ever her foeman drove Back from plain and Sea And shook herself free.Thou art wisdom, thou art law, Thou art heart, our soul, our breath Though art love divine, the awe In our hearts that conquers death. Thine the strength that nervs the arm, Thine the beauty, thine the charm. Every image made divine In our temples is but thine.Thou art Durga, Lady and Queen, With her hands that strike and her swords of sheen, Thou art Lakshmi lotus-throned, And the Muse a hundred-toned, Pure and perfect without peer, Mother lend thine ear, Rich with thy hurrying streams, Bright with thy orchard gleems, Dark of hue O candid-fairIn thy soul, with jewelled hair And thy glorious smile divine, Lovilest of all earthly lands, Showering wealth from well-stored hands! Mother, mother mine! Mother sweet, I bow to thee, Mother great and free!

I have wandered  all over the world hundred not eighty times,
I could not find any one like    you any where,
Wherever I went  , I only had thought of you,
Whoever was with me used to trouble and tease me,
More lovely than all is your looks,
Oh mother , My salutations to you, My salutations to you mother,
Oh mother my salutations to you,
Salutations to mother, Salutations to mother,
Salutations to mother, Salutations to mother,
Salutations to mother, Salutations to mother,
Me who am mad has been yours from birth after birth,
I would  jump about ,  dance and sing , your song of love,
I am not living, I am not thought  , I am not  the wealth of the world,
But I would steal   from your treasure house of love,
When I once get a loving glance of   yours,
Then world world would be forever shining  and sweet smelling to me,
Though your face is like Sun , it is cool  like moon due to your love,
Salutations to mother, Salutations to mother,

Cell makes a curious boy confused

Cell makes a  curious  boy confused

By
P.R.Ramachander

(Based on a small write up in Whatsapp in  Malayalam,  I have modified it. Please  do not get confused  )

It was   a  great   school  in a  town in Kerala.
Where  Pradheep   was attending  his classes,
And Pradheep  was a boy   with curiosity ,
And his teachers used to say “He had great Brain cells”

That day   the  biology  madam marched  in to the class,
And she wanted   to teach them  about ,
The building blocks   by which every being  is made,
And she told  these  building blocks   are called “Cell”.

Pradheep    understood   the teacher   well  ,
And wanted to tell his parents   about this new word ,
And then marched   in the  efficient physics teacher,
And  he told , The electric  current we produce ,
Can be    stored   in a thing called  “Cell”, we call it battery

Pradheep    was   a bit   confused   and he wanted  ,
To ask his   History teacher    who  was about it,
That day  , the teacher   was teaching   about Andamans ,
And he told  , all prisoners were locked up in  their cells.

The brain of Pradheep was   about   to burst,
And then came   the maths   teacher  ,
Who was teaching   them about matrix that day,
And he told , individual elements  of a matrix is called cell.

Pradheep’s   confusion    increased   further  ,
And then came  the teacher   of commerce ,
Who taught   that day about  different business patterns,
And he told Pradheep  That every unit of trade is a cell.

Fortunately  the classes  were   over that day  ,
And a confused  Pradheep came out and went home ,
And his father  told , “You   are   a very good boy  ,
And so I am presenting a cell   to you  and gave him a phone.

My ever lasting love

My  ever lasting love

Written in English  based  on  great write up by  J.K.Sivan
By
P.R.Ramachander

(I enjoyed reading Write up of   Sri J K Sivan  and what all I have done is make a similar  weite up in English. Thanks Sir)

I have earlier   with great love  asked you,
“Are there  any persons who are not charmed by you?”
Your  form , your  fill up    and   your  blissful smell ,
Have made me  wait  several times and  in several places to attain you.

It would   very difficult     to meet you  in my home,
But  in several   towns, several  hotels  ,
Have I not met you  and  made  my evenings great ,
Those memories will last within me   till the end.

You are  very rare   creation, “Hey Lord Brahma ,
How or when did  you  create  this  rarity?”
And  how did you attract me    so much?
AS soon as I think about you  , my mouth is filled with Saliva .

But all that   is a very old    story , everything is over now.
But   I remember  about you in   my dreams  by  attaining you,
And  how much  I enjoyed  tasting   you  and not only that,
I have cut off my relations with that thing with your name  standing near you.

Did I say   no to you   because   of my own self ?
Roll back your thoughts , how many times have we met,
Each other  in this my country   and also abroad?
Think of the  length of  the relation between you and me.

But  my relation with you    has come to an end ,
Because  of the gentleman  who works as a doctor,
He received me , gave a very broad smile  and winked   at  me ,
And told”Do not continue   this relation of yours.”

Without   objecting ,   with a bent  head , I said “ yes “,
Because that gent   likes me a lot   and he said,
“If this relation   of yours continues like this,
I cannot guarantee  any thing, as you  have  become old.”

So Oh Masal Dosa   and his  very close  relative,
Masal Vada, I would   not  like to see again  in this life,
But I assure you  that  definitely   in my next birth ,
After I  am at least seven , I would meet you in some hotel

The lost (last) spring season fifty five years back , in this autumn of modernity

The  lost (last) spring   season  fifty five years back ,  in this autumn of modernity

By
P.R.Ramachander

(This write up is not mine but was posted in the face book which attracted me. I have  modified certain  aspects  to make its appeal universal. I have   changed certain narrations)

Fifty  five years back:-

They  repaired their slippers   and wore it again,
They  darned their cloths    and   wore it again,

Even after  love marriage the    wife  did not address,
Her husband by his  name or referred to him without respect.

During festivals special dishes   were  shared with neighbors.

Whenever   some dish was  left over at night  ,
Next day it was  boiled well and used   as side dish with gruel.

In all   wedding celebrations   lunch was  important feast.
During long journeys   they took  mixed rices like lemon or tamarind rice to eat on the way.
Most of the people travelled by  bus most of the time.
The students  of all schools    were  only children.
Most of the people understood meaning of lyrics of songs.
Most relatives and friends wrote letters    to each other.
During festivals   together they ate feasts  and went and watched  Cinemas  together,
The entire village   together   ran behind the thief to catch him,
If some shouting is heard from a home, the neighbors   rushed to  help,
All of us respected elders of even neighboring homes
Near and dear  ones came to attend marriages even two days before
The entire village toiled  for every homes   celebrations
Each and every one came  and offered help if some is sick or  in case of death
Dawn  was pretty   for breathing and thinking

WE call  it progress  but   we have  lost   all that was good,
WE have sacrificed  happiness  of community  for sake of individual pleasures  and enjoyment.
It may be autumn of modernity now but we will  never get back the spring

Your home with kith and kin , the best old age home for you

Your home with kith and kin , the best old age home for you

By
P.R.Ramachander

(The recent issue of Mangayar Malar has a story by Mrs Nandini Selvam   entitled “Yen iniya(karunai) illa thailvikku oru parisu. The story is about a retired  widowed school teacher who finds, life in her son’s home abominable because, she does not get degree coffee at 5 Am, no body bothers about her, she is not getting  food whenever she feels and no one  loves her,Then she tells her close friend that she is thinking  of going to an old age home.  This is the gist of what   the friend tells her(I simply cannot get in to these lines the majesty of the  language used there) .She then decides her home is the best old home ever possible, and starts  adjusting and appreciating   the home which is the best possible  old age home to her.

You say you are  not getting thick coffee   early morning ,
In the home    of your  own children  and grand children,
You say that  all people at home  do not have time only for you
Would you get the same   in old age homes?

You say that    since daughter in law   is busy with her chores,
You are not getting  food  and snacks , any time you feel like it,
Would   any old age home    give you all this to you,
Unless   they ring the bell     and  you go in time to the dining hall ?

You say that no body shows  love , affection and kindness,
In this home of yours whose members are  your kith and kin,
Di you really thing    that any  of those strangers ,
In an old age home   would show you affection and love?

If  one day you die in this home of yours  ,
Your people   would surround your  cot  ,
Would  lament and shed tears   for you    but in an old age home,
Some one would be waiting with anxiety  to fill up your cot.

Think this home  of your    son, daughter in law and grand kids,
As an old age home   chosen by you to live and then,
All actions of theirs would appear  to be  kind and nice to you,
But if you see it  with pride   as your home
Where you have  all the right to command ,
All people would appear cruel and home   would be a hell.

Are they giving  food that they do not eat to you in this your  home ?
Are they  willfully   deny food to you in proper time in this your home?
Are they not treating you as    an elder in their care,
Would they  not take care of you if are ill,
This is your home  , the special place that is only yours

You  are  more like a blind sage who searches god,
In places where  he is not there and you read prayers,
With a mind covered   completely with dust  of prejudice,
Clean your mind , open your eyes and again see   your children,
Who are  learning to live   and struggling  to establish,
AS  the ones who love you a lot but  do not have time to show off,
And this  heavenly   old age home would  be a paradise to you.

Ek sath mein ,main sath sath

Ek sath mein  ,main sath sath
(I am 77  in  2017)

Today is my birthday.Seventy  seven years back , I started this journey   from a  hamlet  near Parlikkad(near  Wadakanchery).Though initially called Durai by my maternal grand parents  , soon I became Raja to my Paternal grand mother  .Since my father was having a hotel in Bidar(now in Karnataka), I spent my first three   years of life there. My father  then purchased a hotel in Secunderabad  and I moved there with my sister  and parents. Due to the Razakkar  movement  , we were forced to go to Kerala. Intially I went to my  maternal grand father’s house in Ayilur   and later  to Chelakkara. After studing three years in Malayalam medium with Sanskrit as second language , I went to live in Secunderabad with my father. I spent four years there. The next 8 years of my life was spent in hoistels in TRichur, Annamalainagar, Calcutta and Delhi..I then got a job as Gazetted officer(I was only 23)   in a village called Vittal in South Kanara district of Karnataka. I spent next 7 years there. Later I shifted to Coimbatore .I got married while in Coimbatore. After spending three  years in Coimbatore  , we moved to Rajhamundry  of Andhra Pradesh. After spending  three years there , in 1976 , we shifted to Bangalore. For the past 40   years we were  Bangloreans. Collating facts , during this 77 years of life, I  have  lived in Karnataka for 50 years, Kerala  for 7 years , Tamil Nadu  for  6 years, Andhra Pradesh  for ten years , Bengal for one year and New Delhi for 2 years .AS a result  I can read, write  and speak  Malayalam, Tamil, Hindi, Sanskrit and English   and speak and understand  Telugu and Kannada  and working knowledge of Bengali  ,Besides  I have   got trained  in French and German.
Though when people ask  me   I say I am a Tamil speaking  Brahmin from Kerala, possibly  it should be changed to  I am a tamil, Malayalam,  Telugu    and Kannada   speaking  Brahmin from Karnataka. Hope you will agree  I had a very interesting life. You may ask me Where to?
Marching ahead   with closed   eyes in my chosen path,
I  have reached   another   mile stone   in my life  .
“What have   I achieved   so far  in your journey ?” you may ask,
And I would reply, “Every step I take  , takes  me  nearer to god.”

Everything is perhaps done by our own selves

Everything is  perhaps done by our own selves

By
P.R.Ramachander

(Very philosophical  and difficult to understand .It clearly tells that  when something is done by its own self m it is done by nature/God. This is based on the face book posting of  Rajagopal srinivasan. Thank you sir )

The day breaking as well  as  day ending are happening  by their  own self,
The flowers  open by themselves ,
The eyes  open by themselves  ,
The passing of time is  only by its own self,
The mind becomes  joyous  by its own self.

The changes   take place   are by their  own self,
By aid  of  our own self  or by process  of nature,
Which means     that they  are caused  by  God himself.

Let us understand  this by our  own efforts,
Let us live happily in this world by our own self,
Even when we like and greet  , let it be by our own self,
This would be taken as  truth  again by our own self,

“Ourselves”  and “ we  by our own self”  are  like that ,
Becoming  “this” or “that “  and “how”  is again  done by our  one selves,
Let us not make   anything  our own,
And let us with love , give away  willingly by our own self,

“By our selves”, “By our own  selves” , every thing is  done  by our own selves
Let us think ourselves  about how   we came   to this  place,
Let us praise others and  live   and Let us  become  prosperous by our own selves,.

Bother not of praises or harsh words and proceed your march of life

Bother not of praises  or harsh words  and proceed  your  march of life

By
P.R.Ramachander

(Based on the face book posting of Shankaran Balasubramanian .My thanks to him)

A valorous prince was  defeated   in war  by a victorious king,
And the victor told  ‘ I would give you  one pot   filled  ,
With water up to the brim  and you have to carry  it,
For a mile  without   spilling   even a drop  of water from it.”

“Two of my soldiers would   follow you with unsheathed sword,
And if by chance you spill a   drop of water , they would cut off your head,
And if you  are  alive after  carrying  it for   a mile  ,
I would return back your kingdom   to you and make you its king.”

The valorous  prince  agreed   and started  his journey  with the pot,
On  both sides   of the  road  by which he had   to march,
Stood thousands of people , some cheering him  ,
And some others   teasing   and making   fun of him.

The valorous  prince  succeeded  in his mission   and the king,
Who gave him the task , appreciated   and applauded him,
And told him, “now  you  can punish all  those   who teased you,
And  praise all those   who had faith in you and encouraged you.

The prince , smiled    and told , “I never heard   any tease ,
Nor did I hear  appreciations  and  also I did not see ,
Anything except   the pot   that I was   carrying  ,
And so I do not find   any need to punish  or praise.”

The king then told the   prince  “The  pot that   you were,
Carrying was your body and the water  in  it your soul,
AS long as you live you have to take care  of the soul  ,
And later   give it back   to the creator  who gave it to you.

While  your body carries   the  soul in your journey of life,
Do not bother   about    all praises  that you get on the way,
AS well as   the harsh words   and teasings   that  are thrown   upon you ,

And march ahead  with a single aim  of  winning the task of your life.

Hear each other’s murmur by keeping your minds very close

Hear each other’s murmur by keeping your minds very close

(This is based  on a tamil Write up posted by my friend  sri SP Ramanathan. My thanks to him.)

One day a  Guru saw  members  of the same family ,
Shouting at each  other  in a very  loud voice  and he asked,
His disciples, “all these  people are   near to each  other,
Why are  they shouting ?  Are all of them deaf?”

The disciples replied “When you  get angry  ,
You tend to lose   your peace  and that  is why perhaps,
They shout at each other  “ and guru replied ,
“They are near   to each other  and so they need not shout.”

After hearing    several  views from different people  , the Guru told,
“When  you get angry  , your minds  travel far   away   from each other,
And since   they have to make  other man’s  mind  understand ,
What they say  , possibly they shout, not understanding   that their bodies are nearby.”

“But when they  love each other  , their minds are very near by  ,
And even a murmur will do to make the other’s mind  understand,
But if their love for each other  is really   very great,
They understand each other  just by seeing other  person’s eye.”

The saint requested, “When you talk please do not use ,
The words  that would drive  the other’s mind to far away place ,
By doing that   , there  is a danger  of your minds  going,

So far far away  that they may not be able to hear  each other at all.
